MASTER DONG
A 6th Degree Black Belt in the art of Kuk Sool, Master Kwan Jang Nim (KJN) Dong has been practicing for nearly 30 years under the instruction of Master Sung Jin Suh, Founder of the United Mirae Kuk Sool association. KJN Dong has trained students of all ages throughout the Bay Area for over two decades. He has been honored with the Grand Champion Award and received Gold Medals at tournaments across the world between 1999–2019.
Along with his passion for martial arts, he has been educating youth for over 20 years. He has worked as a counselor and program director in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco to help inner-city youth in the late 1990s and toured with Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Programs, performing health education shows for over 200,000 students across Northern California.
Today, he helps students with college and life planning and performs lectures for Alpha Kappa Psi, a business fraternity where he served on the Chapter Advisory Board.
He currently holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and works as a Registered Professional Engineer with experience in business optimization, property management, and land development.
Master Dong’s decades of teaching and martial arts experience help shape the training philosophy of Elevated Flow Martial Arts across our Burlingame and Menlo Park communities.
Classes
The Young Kids Program focuses on empowering self-esteem in a creative, safe, and playful environment through activities that provide an emphasis on active listening and discipline. This program introduces young students to basic martial arts moves and is designed to build on foundational skills such as concentration, memorization, balance, and gross motor coordination. Consistent practice builds a sense of independence and self-confidence through fun drills, unique games, and lots of exercise. These activities will help young ones develop listening skills, cooperation, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
The Kids Program aims to teach students the fundamentals of traditional Korean martial arts. This program is designed to challenge students both physically and mentally, helping them build vital life skills. Centered around power, discipline, and control, students will be introduced to forms and self-defense techniques that are designed to protect them in real-life situations. This program targets concentration, muscle development, flexibility, self-confidence, awareness of others, character and behavioral development.
The Beginning Program provides new teen and adult students with not only the most effective methods of self-defense, but also an intricate art form and a means of physical fitness. This program will help build aerobic stamina, physical strength, coordination skills and focus through martial arts drills, forms, physical techniques and weapons training. Overall performance, which includes mental aspects such as control, discipline, concentration, and patience will also improve as students continue to set goals and adhere to training.
The Advanced Program is a unique opportunity for select students to experience training in all aspects of traditional Korean martial arts including self-defense, full-body conditioning, and mental development. Teen and adult students who have demonstrated a certain aptitude of knowledge, skill, and experience will be eligible for the Advanced Program. High levels of focus and concentration are emphasized in the practice of these classes and will translate into an elevated and more fulfilled lifestyle.
WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS
Families and students have made our martial arts schools a supportive community built around discipline, growth, and encouragement.

“Description text goes here“The story behind this family that runs this studio is amazing. Not only does the entire family practice but their daughter was a black belt even before reaching her teenage years. You see people who go to work then you see people that are passionate about what they do and truly I see the difference… My girls started practicing at 3 and they are so strong, focused and (most importantly) have discipline to continue working hard academically while balancing outside activities.”
-
“This school is an outstanding place to learn and practice martial arts with an amazing Master and teacher SBN Dong. The community is very supportive and like a big family. I highly recommend it.”
-
“Excellent school for children and adults. You’ll get pushed to your limits and the rewards are well worth the hard work! Challenge yourself!”
-
“I love this place. My 4yr old son has been going here for over a year and he has learned discipline, focus, the value of hard work and respect. His transformation has been amazing. It’s a family owned business not a factory. The classes are intimate and hands on. We absolutely love it and can’t recommend it highly enough.”
-
“I’ve been taking classes here for a year and a half. I feel much healthier and have developed better athletic ability and endurance, helping me to run my first 10k just a few months ago. The environment is very friendly, with families as well as other working adults like myself that make it feel more like a community rather than just somewhere I go to work out. Highly recommended even for those like myself with terrible coordination!”
-
“My son started here almost 2.5 years ago and we cannot say enough about the positive impact SBN Dong and all the instructors have had on him. It’s not just a class he attends, but it is an extended family. Any time we need extra support for my son SBN Dong is there to support and encourage. We look forward to many more years…”
